Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen (BOOK REVIEW)
Summary─୨ৎ────────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ
When Elizabeth Bennet first meets eligible bachelor Fitzwilliam Darcy, she thinks him arrogant and conceited; he is indifferent to her good looks and lively mind. When she later discovers that Darcy has involved himself in the troubled relationship between his friend Bingley and her beloved sister Jane, she is determined to dislike him more than ever. In the sparkling comedy of manners that follows, Jane Austen shows us the folly of judging by first impressions and superbly evokes the friendships, gossip and snobberies of provincial middle-class life.

“Could there be finer symptoms? Is not general incivility the very essence of love?”
Just wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. I feel like this story is my childhood. Growing up, my afternoons were nap time and Pride and Prejudice. The movies are just so nostalgic. Reading this book was interesting because I already knew the story so well. I have seen all the versions of the movie so many times, it's insane. But like I said, it was very different reading this book and already knowing the plot. It was so cool to have that knowledge while reading it and getting to learn more details about the story or finding things that the movies left out.
Jane Austen, *stares* wow. Just wow. Her writing is impeccable, detailed, flowery yet simple, poetic, and it has so much meaning beneath the surface. The way that every single character has such a purpose and personality that adds so much dimension to the story, the way humor is commonly weaved in; perfect. It's just so comforting. So refreshing. You can really tell that a writer like Jane Austen put her heart and soul into every single line of this book, and her other works.
“Her heart did whisper that he had done it for her.”
I feel like this book is the OG to the enemies-to-lovers phenomenon that is now very common in the book world. It also has the slow-burn vibe that everyone raves about, nowadays. The way that Jane Austen smoothly built up this tension and banter between Darcy and Elizabeth, is genius; Austen was definitely ahead of her time. Everything about the romance was so entertaining and sweet.
While there is the romance side to this book, there is also scandal, gossip and family issues. Austen was so perfectly able to encapsulate what life was like back in that time, as a young lady of age to be married. It feels real. It really makes you think about how it must have been to live such a different way of life, back then. The social expectations, beauty standards, courting and even values that they all shared.
“One word from you shall silence me forever.”
This book is very well-known, and for good reason. It's a timeless classic. Even with the culture that we live in today, this book shows us qualities of life that we must hold onto. The respect and honor that two people should have for each other in a relationship. Integrity and responsibility should never ever go out of date. Reading a book like this brings us back to a society with ideals that we should strive to never let go.
“You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
