Fireborne, by Rosaria Munda (BOOK REVIEW)
Annie and Lee were children when the cruel revolution broke out, leaving them both orphans. The revolution gave a chance to, even the low-class, become a part of the dragonriders. From two very different backgrounds, Annie and Lee become friends and they go through the trials of the revolution with each other. Now Annie and Lee are growing dragonrider stars, in a competition to become the Fire strider. But things get complicated when people from the old regime rise from New Pythos, with every intention to reclaim what was once theirs. With war on rise and his relationship with Annie falling apart, Lee must win the battle in his mind before he decides what side of the physical war he is on. Lee must decide whether he will side with his family that he hasn't seen for ages, or lose his only friend that has become closer than any real family.

One word.....wow. This book was amazing. The depth and intensity that every page held was impressive. I couldn't stop reading. Every minute of reading this book was filled with excitement and eagerness. This book is like The Hunger Games, The Giver and Legend combined....and then add dragons to the mix! I really enjoyed the struggles that Annie and Lee went through. They had a really solid friendship that definitely got a little shaky, but books that deal with forgiveness are my favorite. There's such a powerful thing about forgiving. Although this wasn't necessarily a Christian book, the things that we as Christians can take away from any story, are really amazing. When you take that one step to think about things deeper, the rabbit hole is endless!
Annie and Lee were a super cute couple! The romance aspect of the story was definitely bringing back memories from Legend. Let's just say...they were passionate. I mean come on, Lee was (trying not to spoil anything!) about to face something terrible...but still...it was pretty graphic. Nothing beyond kissing, thankfully!
This was one of those books where the author lands the story right on you. I had to figure stuff out for myself and really pay attention. There isn't really any idea of what's going on at first, I just found myself in the middle of it. I really liked that though. It wasn't some lazy book; it was a book that I had to think about and figure out.
The only thing that I didn't like was (this is still 4.5 ☆s) how much the author used the word "lingering"! I mean it was on almost every page! It really seems like she likes that word because it was constantly used. I think that a bigger use of other words would have been much better!
One other thing is that there is cursing every once in a while. I think the worst word was the s word, but it was only once (if I'm remembering correctly). This is also a series, so I can't wait to read the next books!!!
All that being said, this was an amazing book that I will never forget.
"And this is how it hurts, to want someone, and see them in the arms of someone else."
I give this book a 9.5 out of 10 and recommend it to ages 14+
