The Runaway King, by Jennifer A. Nielsen (BOOK REVIEW)

"Don't attempt to understand me, Tobias. I can't even do that."

Just a few weeks after Jaron takes the throne of Carthya, he suffers an assassination attempt. Whispers and rumors of war are around every corner and Jaron is pushed into the center of it all. Soon Jaron makes the decision that leaving the kingdom is the only way to save it. The more Jaron loses his identity in lies, the more dangerous is gets. Will he ever able to get back to Carthya and save his kingdom? Or will he sacrifice his own life for a chance at the kingdoms freedom?

"Everyone gets scared at times. It's only the fools that won't admit it."

The Runaway King by Jennifer A. Nielsen was a roller coaster. I really enjoyed how it started right where the first book ended. I think this book was set up for success based on the first book. I really like how character's from Jaron's' past cam about and how Jaron dealt with that. Another that I like about this series is how thick the plot gets and then how it quickly ends well. I think that Jennifer Nielsen's work in a series is much better in depth than her stand alone books. I think because Nielsen focuses so much on the main story theme she does better in series, which produces a lot more character depth and development. I can't wait to start the third book!

I recommend this book for 12+ and give it a 8 out of 10.
