Rilla of Ingleside, by L.M. Montgomery (BOOK REVIEW)

"I heard someone say that the years from fifteen to nineteen are the best years in a girl's life."

Anne's children are all grown up, all but Rilla. No one can withstand Rilla's charming smile and contagious laughter. Almost fifteen years old and all Rilla can think about is the upcoming dance at the Four Winds lighthouse. That dance is where she meets handsome Kenneth Ford. The only man who's ever given her attention; the first man that kisses her. But the dream ends when war breaks out and Kenneth goes to war. Heartbreak and grief enters Rilla's life when her brothers join the war, one by one. She is forced into terrible circumstance that she must navigate with endurance and courage.

"Nobody whom this war has touched will ever be happy again in quite the same way. But it will be a better happiness, I think, little sister - a happiness we've earned."

Rilla of Ingleside, by L.M. Montgomery was a sweet and heart-warming story. But, I'm gonna' be honest, it took me forever to finish it. I don't know if it was the book itself that wasn't holding my attention, or the fact that I was reading other books. But I just didn't find it super exciting. The ending also kind of left me confused. I was wondering why Montgomery pushed the brakes so abruptly. I think that the overall story was great and L.M. Montgomery never fails to deliver, but I just didn't find every chapter super interesting. Even so, the story was really heart-felt and had a lot of great levels of different things going on. The character development was amazing and each person had their own traits that were easily distinguishable. L.M. Montgomery's writing is always amazing and the depth and heart that she pours into her books is greatly loved.

I give this book a 7.5 out of 10 and recommend it for ages 12+
