Faithful, by Janet Fox (BOOK REVIEW)
“I know a place on this Earth that contains wonders enough to stop the breath. A place where the very rocks whisper and whine, where the rivers boil and the snow-studded peaks thrust into a bowl of blue; where great shaggy beasts press the earth with cloven hooves or threaten with claw and fang; where new life and lurking death coexist in the shallows of varicolored pools.”
16 year old Maggie's life is falling apart. Her mother has disappeared and is presumed dead. Out of nowhere her father decides to take her to Yellowstone. A trip to Montana is the last thing Maggie wants to do, especially with her debut coming up. Nevertheless, Maggie and her father go to Yellowstone, leaving her fancy house, her friends and ultimately the success of her future. But things don't seem so bad when she makes a friend, a very special friend, Tom Rowland. The handsome young son of a park geologist. Maggie must decide whether she will move on from her past or let it haunt her for the rest of her life.
Faithful, by Janet Fox was a relaxing and "feel good" story. Most of the plot was super un-predictable for me, which was surprising. Though the story itself didn't really strike me as unique or out of the ordinary. It was pretty laid-back, which is sometimes what I want (I'm such a mood reader lol). Janet Fox's writing style was quite easy to read and flowed nicely. I think the only reason why I didn't like it that much is because it wasn't a book where I finished it and wished there was more. It was like watching a Hallmark movie (which I love). The romance had its cheesy parts...but it was also really sweet. I think that this book did have a lot of good dynamics to it. I like books that have a few layers to the story and this one did have a significant amount of different stuff going on.
I give this book a 7 out of 10 and recommend it for ages 13+
