Up a Road Slowly, by Irene Hunt (Book Review)

"Love is not always found in the grand gestures, but in the small moments of kindness."

When her mother dies, seven year old Julie, goes to live with her Aunt Cordelia in a large house far away from town. At first life seems terrible away from her father, but as Julie gets to know her Aunt, she comes to love her and experiences a wonderful childhood. Julie grows up all too fast and when she starts high school, she must make bigger decisions and endure the trials of her teen years. When Julie falls in love with a boy her whole family doesn't seem to like, life becomes confusing.

Up a Road Slowly, by Irene Hunt, is definitely one of my favorite books. It is a beautiful story of a girl's life from when she was 7 to 17. I really enjoyed Irene Hunts style of writing and couldn't put this book down, once I started getting into it. I really like books that are from the main characters perspective, which is one of the reasons I liked this book. like being inside the characters head and seeing their thoughts. This was probably the most romantic book that I have read, next to the Anne of Green Gables series, Little Women and The Hunger Games. It was also set in a more modern time period as well, which I liked.

I recommend this book for ages 13+ and give it a 9 out of 10.
