Sense & Sensibility, by Jane Austen (BOOK REVIEW)

"The more I know of the world, the more I am convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I require so much!"

The Dashwood's father has died. Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters, Elinor, Marianne and Margaret, are now condemned to poverty. The family moves to the country hoping to have a fresh start on life. Mrs. Dashwood's only hope for her family is if her daughters marry well, but life doesn't always go to plan. Marianne falls in love with dashing, young Willoughby and Elinor falls in love with a man that is too high in rank for her. Will the sisters ever find a man that will satisfy their hearts desires?

Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen is a captivating story! Jane Austen is truly a legend. I loved her writing and appreciated the depth of each character she portrayed. Every person in this book had a specific character that wasn't shallow or boring. Sense and Sensibility was such a wonderful story that incorporated the trials and triumphs of finding someone to love.
This book is old so the writing had a lot of old english, which can be a lot. Listening to the audiobook helped me a lot, and then going to read the book was easier because I got used to the language. I have seen two movies for this book and did notice some differences. In the book Willoughby seemed much more innocent and the mother was much more of a matchmaker.

I give this book and 8 out of 10 and recommend it for ages 13+

  1. So true about the mom and willoughby in the book compared to the movie. I saw the movie first (and many times), but I think I would’ve liked the story even more had I understood the characters better like Jane Austen wrote them in the novel.
