Mere Christianity BK 2 CH 5 (NOTES AND THOUGHTS)

Book 2

Chapter 5

"He does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us; just as the roof of a greenhouse does not attract sun because it is bright, but becomes bright because the sun shines on it."

Being a Christian is different than trying to be a good person. Good works is not the way to heaven. The only way to heaven is through Jesus. God doesn't love us because of what we do, but when God takes over our life, we can't help but be a better person. God can't dwell where there is sin.

Some people don't like the idea that God is in authority. I find a lot of comfort in it. It is a fact that God is in authority, but when you allow him to take control over your life, there has to be a lot of trust involved. As your life goes on you will find that God is good. Just because He is good doesn't mean that all the troubles of this world will go away, but you will have the Creator of this world fighting for you through it all.

When a person says that they are "in Christ" or Christ is "in them" they don't mean that they are thinking about Christ, or copying Him. It means that Christ is operating through them. They allowed God take over their life and now they are God's hands and feet. All things that we do should be for the glory of God and when you allow God to have control of your life, allow him to work through you.
