The Giver (BOOK REVIEW)
The Giver is placed in the setting of a family that lives in a confused and isolated community. Jonas is a little anxious about his coming twelves ceremony where the elders choose the profession that Jonas will do for the rest of his life.
When the ceremony comes Jonas is not chosen but selected the honor of being the Receiver. When Jonas starts his training he discovers frightening and horrific realities that he can’t tell anyone about. Jonas soon has to leave his community so that he can reveal these things to all the people.
I liked this book a lot because the idea of what these people are living in really shows what America could be and could’ve been. It kind of reminds me of the idea of the book “Animal Farm”. These books show us what it would be like if the government had all power and control over what we say and do. In this book the elders had cameras everywhere and people weren’t allowed to say certain things or to even feel certain things!
This is only part one of the Giver series the next book is called, “Gathering Blue”.
This book has some really horrifying and disturbing scenes so I would recommend this book for all adults and children 13+
