Unblemished, by Sara Ella (BOOK REVIEW)
"This entire time I've been closing myself off from love, but it's been the solution all along. I've built walls at every turn. No more."
Eliyana can't bear to look at herself in the mirror. Having a birthmark that covers half her face has never been easy and getting through high school is all she wants. Until she meets Joshua, her handsome neighbour, who changes her whole perspective. Maybe she could be loved, even with her birthmark. But one night her mom doesn't come home and everything starts to fall apart. Now Joshua is her legal guardian. In reluctance Eliyana goes outside at night and is followed by a hooded stalker. The night ends with an otherworldy battle in Central Park that changes Eliyana's life forever. Eliyana soon finds herself in another, complicated world. A world that is under the power of a tyrannical man and somehow Eliyana has the power to defeat him...but how can an ordinary girl save a whole world?
"There's always a choice."
Unblemished, by Sara Ella was an breathtaking story. I really liked this book and think the plot is really unique. It was super fantastical which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, just something I had to get used to. I think that the main character was super cool and thankfully, not annoying. I really don't like it when the main character is some sort of 'girl-boss'. Some aspects of her were pretty relatable. The story is unlike anything I've ever read and the characters were super interesting. The twists and turns in this book were absolutely crazy! It was one of those books where almost everyone finds out that they are related and then your like "Waaaa????" It was crazy (in a good way)! It kind of reminded me of the Ascendance series because all my ideas of who the bad guy was, changed...constantly. I was like, "Oh that guys nice!" and it turns out...he's the bad guy. I was in anticipation of the whole book and then...it ended on a cliffhanger! I rushed out of my room, when I finished it, and quickly looked if there was a 2nd book and...phew! There is. I literally let out an audible sigh.
Sara Ella's writing really reminded me of Frank Peretti. It was very straight to the point and from Eliyana's (the main character) point of view. Which, if you've read my other reviews, you know that I love it when the book is from the main characters perspective. The only thing that makes this book not a 10 out of 10, is that some points in the book had me confused. Like I said, at one point everyone is discovering their long lost family, and I had trouble keeping up with who is related to who. Maybe, that was just me, but there were a lot of points where I was going back into the previous chapters trying to remember certain details. #TeamKy
I give this book a 9 out of 10 and recommend it for ages 14+
