Utopia (BOOK REVIEW)

"Pride thinks it's own happiness shines the brighter by comparing it with the misfortunes of others"

In Utopia there are no rights or freedoms. You work for your food and ask no questions...

Thomas More meets with his friend, Peter Giles and another man Raphael Hythloday. Raphael is an explorer, he has been to the new world and has also been to another place called Utopia. Utopia is an island that is run by a socialist government. After visiting the island of Utopia, Raphael Hythloday is convinced that socialism is the best way to run a country. Is socialism really the best route?

In Utopia we are taken through a conversation between Thomas More, Peter Giles and Raphael Hythloday. These men discuss topics like capitol punishment and running a country. Raphael explains to Thomas and Peter what Utopia is like and how its system works. In Utopia you can't own anything, you are placed in a position to live and work in and there is no alternative. You have no voice, no rights and no freedoms.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is older English but really interesting! It gave me another really cool perspective on what a socialist country looks like and how it would be to live in a country run that way. I would really recommend this book for people who think that socialism is a good idea, or for someone who isn't really sure what socialism is at all.

I give this book a 8 out of 10 and recommend it for ages 12+
