The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins (Book Review)
"Gale is mine. I am his. Anything else is unthinkable."
Sparks are igniting. Flames are spreading, and the Capitol wants revenge.....
She did it. Katniss and her fellow tribute, Peeta have won the Hunger Games. She and Peeta are alive. Everything should go back to normal now, right? She's safe now. But people change, and hope is stirring. Gale is different now and keeps his distance, and Peeta is upset with her. And to top all of that there are rumors of rebellion....a rebellion that she may have started. Katniss has sparked a hope that she never intended to spark. The Capitol doesn't like hope and all eyes are turning to Katniss. If Katniss and Peeta can't convince all of Panem and especially President Snow, that they are dreadfully in love, the consequences will be horrifying. President Snow warns Katniss that her friends and family will be in trouble if she fails. Katniss's life will never be the same again.
"You know, you could live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him."
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is a breath-taking book where themes of power and rebellion take center stage. I was swept away by the action and couldn't stop turning the pages. Every second of reading Catching Fire was so intriguing. Usually the second book in most series isn't as good as the first. But I have to say that Suzanne Collins has written not only an amazing book itself, but a sequel that improves upon the first book. The character development was absolutely amazing. The way Collins describes Katniss's feelings and experiences makes it really easy to jump into her shoes. I mean, wow. Every risky moment in the arena is thrilling and I was holding my breath the whole book. I felt like I could experience the highs and the lows of what Katniss was going through, and I could tell that the expressions on my face were changing as I continued to read (LOL). The romance was so sweet! Katniss's character does kind of bring "girl- boss" vibes, but that's where Peeta comes in. I feel like they compliment each other so well (even if I like Gale better). The pacing is just right: the action kept me on edge, while the quieter moments kept me tied to the pages. Suzanne Collins' writing is so raw and doesn't hide from the reality of the story. This balance that Collins is able to bring is downright perplexing.
"I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now and live in it forever."
I give this book a 10 out 10 and recommend it for ages 14+
