Gathering Blue, by Lois Lowry (BOOK REVIEW)

When Kira's mother dies she is broken. Kira is all alone, tired, sore and orphaned. She knows that she will be thrown into the field and be eaten up by the "beasts" just like every other person like her before. It was a miracle she wasn't already dead. She was born crippled and was only alive because her mother had begged the council to keep her. But now her mother was gone. After Kira is put on trial it is decided that she will stay under the council's care. Kira has a gift, she can sew. But soon Kira finds out that the council takes talented people and keep them like slaves. Kira soon learns why she is actually alive, what happened to her father and what her future will be if she stays under the care of the elders. Everything she ever knew was lie......

I really enjoyed this book and was pleased with yet another amazing book by Lois Lowry. This book takes you along with the joys and sorrows that Kira faces. Lois Lowry has such an amazing talent of truly showing you what it would be like to live a life like Kira's. It was cool to have a view of someone else's life and understand what is going through their head.

I give this book an 7 out of 10 and recommend it to ages 13+
